The job of attorney general is not the most sought after today because the president continues to take jabs at Jeff Sessions. But Fox News TV host Jeanine Pirro is telling Trump advisors that she is interested in becoming the next attorney general.
Pirro is a strong Trump loyalist on her show “Justice with Judge Jeanine, and has known him for decades. She told Trump aides and advisors that she wants the job, according to Politico.
Jeanine Pirro is a former Westchester County prosecutor and judge. She even backed Trump up after the release of the infamous “Access Hollywood” tape, when many other conservatives didn’t.
During a recent segment on her show, she picked up the Trump story that the FBI put “spies” inside his presidential campaign. She asked: “Why shouldn’t I be furious and who do they think they’re kidding?”
She referred to the former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper as a “bozo,” and asked: “Since when do we put spies in a presidential campaign to find out what the Russians are doing? Why not intercept them on the way in.”
Pirro lost a race to Andrew Cuomo for New York state attorney general. Her requests to join the administration go back a year and a half. Two Trump administration officials said that she pushed for the deputy job after it was clear the AG job was going to sessions.
The current deputy AG, Rod Rosenstein, is overseeing the Russia probe, and he named Robert Mueller as special counsel following the Sessions recusal.
The New York Times reported that when Sessions resisted Pirro’s appointment, Trump advisors said the president might nominate her to the Supreme Court.
